About this remedy
Carrots are one of the richest sources of beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A — essential for skin cell turnover, repair, and protection against UV damage. A clinical study found that beta-carotene supplementation significantly improved skin color and appearance (a 'healthy glow' effect). Carrots also provide biotin (for skin cell renewal), vitamin K1, and lutein — a carotenoid that protects skin from blue light and oxidative stress.
Preparation
Eat 1–2 raw or cooked carrots daily. Cooking actually increases beta-carotene bioavailability. For a skin-boosting juice, blend 3 carrots with an orange and a piece of ginger. For a face mask, mix grated carrot with honey and apply for 15 minutes.
Dosage
1–2 medium carrots daily (about 100–200 g), or 8 oz fresh carrot juice
Cautions
Generally very safe. Very high intake over weeks can cause carotenodermia (harmless orange skin tint that reverses when reduced). Cooking with a small amount of fat improves absorption.
