About this remedy
Chamomile contains apigenin, a flavonoid that binds to GABA-A receptors in the brain to promote sleepiness. A randomized controlled trial in postpartum women found chamomile tea significantly improved sleep quality. Its mild sedative effect makes it ideal as a gentle nightly ritual.
Preparation
Steep 2 tablespoons of chamomile flowers in boiling water for 10 minutes. Strain and stir in 1 teaspoon of raw honey.
Dosage
1 cup nightly, 30–60 minutes before bed
Cautions
Avoid if allergic to ragweed or other Asteraceae plants. Generally very safe.
