About this remedy

Eucalyptus oil contains 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), which has been clinically shown to reduce sinusitis symptoms and improve airflow. A randomized controlled trial found eucalyptol significantly reduced nasal congestion and headache in acute rhinosinusitis patients compared to placebo.

Preparation

Boil a pot of water, remove from heat, add 3–5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Drape a towel over your head and breathe the steam for 5–10 minutes.

Dosage

2–3 times daily when congested, for up to 7 days

Cautions

Keep eyes closed during steam inhalation. Not recommended for children under 6 or asthmatics. Do not ingest eucalyptus oil.
