About this remedy
Garlic's organosulfur compounds and onion's quercetin work synergistically to reduce chronic inflammation. Research shows aged garlic extract reduces inflammatory markers (CRP, TNF-α, IL-6). Quercetin from onions is a potent inhibitor of NF-κB, a master regulator of inflammatory gene expression.
Preparation
Crush 3 garlic cloves and dice 1 medium red onion. Sauté lightly in olive oil (brief cooking preserves some allicin while releasing quercetin). Add to soups, stir-fries, or eat with whole grain bread.
Dosage
Include 2–3 cloves garlic and ½ onion in daily cooking. For acute inflammation, also consider aged garlic extract 1200 mg/day.
Cautions
May interact with blood thinners. Raw garlic can cause heartburn in sensitive individuals. Onion may cause GI discomfort in those with IBS/FODMAP sensitivity.
