About this remedy
Onions are one of the richest dietary sources of quercetin, a flavonoid with powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. A meta-analysis found quercetin supplementation significantly reduces blood pressure. Onions also contain sulfur compounds that support healthy blood lipid profiles and reduce platelet aggregation.
Preparation
Include ½–1 raw or lightly cooked onion daily in meals (salads, sandwiches, lightly sautéed). For maximum quercetin, red onions are preferred. Alternatively, simmer sliced onions in broth for a heart-healthy soup base.
