Rose Water Skin Toner
A gentle, alcohol-free toner for sensitive skin

About this remedy
Rose water is what remains after rose petals are steam-distilled, and it has been used on skin for centuries. It is mildly astringent without the sting of an alcohol-based toner, which makes it a reasonable daily option for skin that reacts badly to stronger products. The evidence is largely traditional and laboratory-based rather than clinical, so treat this as a gentle everyday comfort, not a treatment for a skin condition.
Preparation
Choose a pure rose water with no added alcohol, fragrance, or preservative - the label should read little more than rose flower water. Chill it if you like. Either sweep it over clean skin with a cotton pad, or decant into a small spray bottle and mist from about 20 cm away.
Dosage
Apply to clean skin once or twice daily, morning and evening, before moisturiser.
Cautions
Patch test on your inner forearm for 24 hours before first use. For external use only, and keep it away from your eyes. Use a skin-safe or food-grade rose water - cosmetic 'rose fragrance' waters often carry additives that irritate. Refrigerate after opening and discard it if it turns cloudy or smells off. Stop if you get stinging, redness, or a rash, and see a clinician for persistent acne, eczema, or dermatitis rather than treating it yourself.
