About this remedy

Avocados are uniquely rich in skin-supporting nutrients: vitamin E (a potent antioxidant that protects against UV-induced oxidative damage), vitamin C (essential for collagen synthesis), healthy monounsaturated fats (that maintain skin moisture and elasticity), and lutein/zeaxanthin (carotenoids that improve skin tone). A clinical study found that daily avocado consumption significantly increased skin elasticity and firmness in women over 8 weeks.

Preparation

Eat half an avocado daily in salads, on toast, or in smoothies. For a face mask, mash half a ripe avocado with 1 teaspoon honey and apply for 15 minutes, then rinse. The oils penetrate skin deeply.

Dosage

½ avocado daily as food. Face mask 1–2 times per week.

Cautions

Generally very safe. Avocado allergy exists (often cross-reacts with latex allergy). High in calories — account for in daily intake. Patch test before facial application.
