Traditional liver and digestive support
Moderate evidenceHerbs in this remedy
About this remedy
Dandelion root has been used for centuries to support liver health and bile production. Research suggests its compounds, including taraxacin and taraxacerin, stimulate bile flow and may help the liver process toxins more efficiently. This simple decoction is a gentle daily tonic for liver and digestive wellness.
Preparation
Simmer 1 tablespoon of dried roasted dandelion root in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes. Strain, then add a squeeze of lemon and a teaspoon of honey if desired. The roasted root gives a pleasant coffee-like flavor.
Dosage
1-2 cups daily, ideally before meals to stimulate digestive juices. Can be used as a caffeine-free coffee alternative.
Cautions
Avoid if you have gallstones or bile duct obstruction. May interact with diuretics, lithium, and blood sugar-lowering medications. Those with ragweed allergies may be sensitive to dandelion.
