About this remedy
Ginger applied topically provides warming relief for stiff, achy joints. A study in Osteoarthritis and Cartilage found that ginger extract significantly reduced knee pain on standing. Gingerols inhibit COX-2 and 5-lipoxygenase pathways, reducing local inflammation.
Preparation
Grate 2 inches of fresh ginger, wrap in cheesecloth, and steep in hot water for 5 minutes. Apply the warm compress to affected joints for 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, mix ginger essential oil with a carrier oil for massage.
Dosage
Apply compress 1-2 times daily to affected areas. For oral use: 500-1000 mg ginger extract daily.
Cautions
Test on a small area of skin first for sensitivity. Avoid on broken skin or open wounds. Oral ginger may interact with blood thinners.
