About this remedy
Ginger is one of the most extensively studied herbal medicines for nausea. Multiple clinical trials and meta-analyses confirm it significantly reduces nausea from pregnancy, chemotherapy, and post-surgery. Its active compounds gingerols and shogaols accelerate gastric emptying and block serotonin receptors in the gut.
Preparation
Grate 1 inch of fresh ginger root into a cup. Pour boiling water over it, steep 10 minutes. Add honey and lemon to taste. Alternatively, chew on a small piece of crystallized ginger.
Dosage
1–2 cups daily, or 250 mg ginger extract capsules 4 times daily
Cautions
May interact with blood-thinning medications. Limit to 4 g of ginger per day. Consult a doctor if pregnant.
