About this remedy
Lemon balm has been used since the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety. A randomized, double-blind study found a single 600 mg dose significantly improved calmness and alertness within 1–3 hours. Its rosmarinic acid inhibits GABA transaminase, increasing calming GABA levels in the brain.
Preparation
Steep 1–2 teaspoons of fresh or dried lemon balm leaves in boiling water for 5–10 minutes. Enjoy hot or iced.
Dosage
1–3 cups daily as needed for stress. Or 300–600 mg extract.
Cautions
May interact with thyroid medications and sedatives. Generally very safe for most people.
