Moderate evidenceHerbs in this remedy
About this remedy
Stinging nettle has demonstrated natural antihistamine properties in clinical studies. It may inhibit several processes involved in allergic rhinitis, including histamine release and prostaglandin formation. A strong nettle infusion provides concentrated relief while also being deeply mineralizing.
Preparation
Place 1 oz (about 1 cup loosely packed) dried nettle leaf in a quart jar. Fill with boiling water, cover, and steep for 4-8 hours or overnight. Strain and drink at room temperature or slightly warmed.
Dosage
1-3 cups daily, starting 2-4 weeks before allergy season for best preventive results. Continue throughout the season.
Cautions
May lower blood pressure and blood sugar. Those on blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or diabetes medications should consult a practitioner. May increase urine output.
