About this remedy
Chamomile and ginger have individually shown benefits for menstrual pain in clinical trials. A study in the Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research found chamomile significantly reduced menstrual pain intensity. Ginger has been shown to be as effective as ibuprofen for menstrual pain relief.
Preparation
Steep 2 tsp dried chamomile flowers and 1/2 inch sliced fresh ginger in boiling water for 10 minutes. Add honey and lemon to taste. Drink warm.
Dosage
2-3 cups daily, starting 2 days before expected menstruation and continuing through the first 3 days of the cycle.
Cautions
Those with ragweed allergies may be sensitive to chamomile. High doses of ginger may increase bleeding. Consult doctor if taking blood thinners.
