About this remedy

Goji berries contain the highest concentration of zeaxanthin among common foods, a carotenoid critical for macular health. A randomized trial found daily goji berry consumption significantly increased plasma zeaxanthin levels and protected against macular pigment loss. Zeaxanthin filters harmful blue light and reduces oxidative stress in the retina.

Preparation

Steep 1 tablespoon dried goji berries in hot water for 10 minutes, or add to green tea. Eat the softened berries after drinking. For a smoothie, blend goji berries with blueberries, spinach, and carrot juice.

Dosage

15-30 g (1-2 tablespoons) dried goji berries daily, or 1-2 cups goji tea.

Cautions

May interact with blood thinners (warfarin) and blood pressure medications. Those with pollen allergies may react. Start with small amounts to check tolerance.
