About this remedy
Nettle is one of the most iron-rich plants available, and its vitamin C content aids iron absorption. This tea is especially useful for those with low iron levels, heavy periods, or plant-based diets. Combined with lemon for extra vitamin C, it creates a highly bioavailable iron tonic.
Preparation
Steep 2 tbsp dried nettle leaf in 1.5 cups boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain and add the juice of half a lemon. Sweeten with honey if desired.
Dosage
1-2 cups daily, preferably between meals for optimal iron absorption. Avoid drinking with calcium-rich foods or caffeinated beverages.
Cautions
Not a replacement for iron supplements in cases of diagnosed iron deficiency anemia. May interact with blood thinners and blood pressure medications. Consult a doctor if you suspect iron deficiency.
