About this remedy
Skullcap is one of the few nervines that calms the mind without dulling it. Its flavonoids baicalin and scutellarin gently modulate GABA receptors, easing anxious thoughts while leaving focus intact. Unlike stronger sedatives, it's ideal for stressful workdays when you need clarity as much as calm.
Preparation
Steep 1-2 tsp dried skullcap aerial parts in 8 oz hot water for 10-15 minutes, covered. Strain and sip. Add a squeeze of lemon and honey if desired. For stronger effect, combine with 1 tsp lemon balm.
Dosage
1-3 cups daily during periods of stress or mental tension. Best effects appear after 2-3 weeks of consistent use.
Cautions
Generally very safe. Avoid during pregnancy. May interact with sedative medications — combine cautiously. Ensure your source uses Scutellaria lateriflora (American skullcap), not the similarly-named but distinct Chinese skullcap.
