About this remedy
The first 2-3 weeks of quitting any addiction are notorious for insomnia, irritability, and a raw-nerved emotional state. This blend is built around the two most profound nervous system restoratives in Western herbalism — oat straw and milky oats — combined with valerian for sleep support. It doesn't just mask symptoms; it begins rebuilding the nervous system that was worn down by nicotine.
Preparation
Combine 1 tbsp dried oat straw, 1 tsp dried milky oats (or 20 drops tincture added after brewing), and 1/2 tsp dried valerian root. Steep in 2 cups boiling water for 15-20 minutes, covered. Strain and drink warm.
Dosage
1-2 cups daily, with one cup 1 hour before bed for withdrawal insomnia. Continue for 4-8 weeks through the hardest phase of quitting.
Cautions
Valerian can cause drowsiness — do not drive after drinking. May interact with sedatives and sleep medications. Those with celiac disease should verify their oat source is gluten-free.
