About this remedy
Beetroot juice is one of the most well-studied natural performance enhancers. Its dietary nitrates convert to nitric oxide, improving blood flow, oxygen delivery, and exercise efficiency. Multiple studies show beetroot juice can improve exercise performance by 1-3% and reduce the oxygen cost of exercise.
Preparation
Juice 2 medium beetroots, 2 carrots, 1 apple, and 1/2 lemon. Add 1/2 inch fresh ginger for extra zing. Drink 2-3 hours before exercise for peak nitrate levels.
Dosage
500 mL (about 2 cups) beetroot juice 2-3 hours before physical activity, or daily for general cardiovascular support.
Cautions
Will turn urine and stools red/pink (harmless). High in oxalates — avoid with kidney stone history. May lower blood pressure — monitor if on antihypertensives. Can stain surfaces.
